A Word About Mailboxes...

With every winter comes the battle between the snow plow and the mailbox.  Unfortunately, the mailbox always loses.  You can give them a better chance for survival by following a few simple rules.  Keeping the furthest projection of the mailbox or support at least 2 inches behind the concrete curb is recommended.  The U.S. Postal Service prefers the bottom of the mailbox to be 44 to 48 inches from the bottom of the concrete gutter.  The Village recommends using treated four inch square or round posts made of southern yellow pine.  Inspect the installation each year for rot and weakness.  DO NOT make mailbox posts out of resistant materials such as heavy iron or concrete - you may incur liability if struck by a motor vehicle.  See Installation Specs.
