If you have a rain barrel, don't forget to winterize it to protect it from damage from freezing temperatures. The first step is to disconnect the barrel from your down spout then empty the container of all water or any debris that managed to get into the barrel. The best way to protect the barrel is to store the barrel upside down or covered in a warm and dry place, such as a garage or basement.

If you don’t have a rain barrel, consider adding one next spring. Rain Barrels can divert approximately 600 gallons of water that would be produced from 1 inch of rain on a 1000-square foot roof, possibly preventing a sizeable amount of stormwater from becoming a flooded yard or home.
