By collecting this water for later use, you are reducing the amount of stormwater runoff from your home. When stormwater runs over impervious surfaces, it collects pollutants such as chemicals, oils, and trash. This water is then conveyed into public waterways via storm drains. Rain barrels help to reduce stormwater runoff and prevent harmful pollutants from flowing into our rivers, lakes, and Lake Michigan! Rain barrels can last upwards of 15 years when properly maintained. Invest in a rain barrel and you'll be investing in a clean and healthy future for our waterways.
