Organic Fert.

Synthetic fertilizers can introduce excess nutrients into the environment that runoff into lakes, streams, and rivers when not absorbed by the soil. Take advantage of the natural nutrients that become available as organic materials such as fallen leaves and grass clippings decompose and use these materials to fertilize your lawn.   Leaves and grass clippings that are collected from your lawn or storm drain can be placed in a compost bucket or pile, shredded, or left in place. These materials release organic nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus as they decompose that can be used in place of store-bought, synthetic fertilizers. Using leaves and grass clippings to fertilize your yard not only saves you money, but also prevents excess nutrients from flowing into storm drains and waterways.
