Winter Considerations for Snow and Ice Treatments

Before you bring out your big bag of rock salt, consider using some water-safe alternatives to help the health of the Milwaukee River and minimize the water quality impact it has on our streams, rivers, and lakes.

4 Alternatives for De-icing:
• Sugar beet juice - safe for water, pets, plants, grass, etc!
• Sand
• Cat Litter - provides traction
• Remove snow early in morning and after each fall
AND please remember to take care of your storm drains until the first snowfall by removing any leaf debris to prevent it from freezing!
